Stop Hitting the Wall, Avoid Gut Issues, and Perform at Your Best

It’s not just about training harder…

Most triathletes underfuel without realising it — sabotaging their performance and suffering in training.

If you keep guessing, you’ll keep struggling.

You’ve put in the hours.
You’ve followed the plan.

But without the right nutrition, none of it matters.

The most common mistakes I see?

⬇️ Bonking when it matters most

Nutrition is the difference between a strong, confident race and a frustrating disappointment.

The Hub is the only triathlon nutrition system that gives you a proven plan, expert coaching, and a supportive community — so you can finally fuel right, race strong, and perform like you deserve.

“The first session after getting the carbs right… I felt like Superman”

Nathan Frost
First-time Ironman Finisher

The Challenge

Nathan came to me with a clear problem: he couldn't complete even short triathlons without stomach issues.

Every race followed the same pattern — train hard, prepare well, but then watch it all fall apart due to nutrition problems.

And now he was planning something much bigger…

His first Ironman.

To make things more challenging, Nathan injured his knee during a training camp in Lanzarote.

This meant he could barely run in training — the longest run he managed was just 15km, far short of the full marathon he'd need to complete in the Ironman.

Our Approach

Nutrition Audit

  • Analyzed current training nutrition
  • Identified problem areas in race-day strategy
  • Reviewed previous race experiences

Training Nutrition Overhaul

  • Created specific fueling plans for each type of training session
  • Tested different nutrition products and timing strategies
  • Developed clear guidelines for pre-training meals

Race Day Strategy Development

  • Built a comprehensive race-day nutrition plan
  • Created backup plans for various scenarios
  • Thoroughly tested all strategies in training

The Solutions We Implemented

Pre-Race Preparation

  • Developed a specific carb-loading strategy for the days before the race
  • Created a detailed race-morning nutrition timeline
  • Prepared backup nutrition options in transition bags

Race Day Execution

  • Precise bike nutrition plan with specific amounts of carbohydrates and fluids
  • Strategic caffeine timing throughout the race
  • Clear run nutrition strategy with backup options

The Results

Nathan completed Ironman Barcelona in 12 hours and 13 minutes — an incredible time for any first-time Ironman, but especially remarkable given his limited run training.

More importantly:

  • Zero GI issues throughout the entire race
  • Maintained energy levels from start to finish
  • Completed the marathon despite minimal run training
  • Actually enjoyed the experience instead of just surviving it

Key Achievements

  • Transformed from struggling with Olympic distance races to completing a full Ironman
  • Went from dreading race nutrition to feeling confident about his strategy
  • Completed his target race without any stomach problems
  • Built sustainable nutrition habits that improved both training and racing

In Nathan’s Words

"From a nutrition perspective, it could not have been better. I felt confident going in, energized throughout the entire thing. I couldn't believe how much I enjoyed the run given that I hadn't been able to do more than 15km in training all year because of my knee."

The Bigger Picture

Nathan's success wasn't just about finishing an Ironman — it was about transforming his entire approach to training and racing.

By focusing on nutrition fundamentals and building a solid strategy, we turned what was previously his biggest weakness into a strength that supported his performance.

The Hub offers you the tools to have exactly the same experience.

Between the race nutrition support, the weekly coaching calls, and the TriFuel Academy, you’ll have everything you need at your fingertips.

Let’s make every race your best ever!

When I did my first triathlon, I had no idea about nutrition.

I signed up for a 70.3 and, like many triathletes, thought I could figure out the nutrition part along the way.

Needless to say, that didn't work out well.

By mile 8 of the run, my stomach had completely shut down and it felt like I was running with lead blocks for feet.

If you've ever had your race fall apart because of nutrition, you know exactly how devastating that feels.

This sparked my journey to truly understand nutrition — not just the science, but how to make it work in real life. I made a promise to never let nutrition hold me back again.

Six years later, after completing my Masters in Sports Nutrition and joining the Sports and Exercise Nutrition Register (SENR), I've repeatedly helped triathletes take control of their nutrition.

From first-time Ironman finishers to those hunting for PBs, I've seen how the right nutrition approach can transform performance. I've helped triathletes finally find sustainable ways to manage their weight without strict diets or giving up the foods they love.

But here's what really matters: through my own racing and coaching, I've experienced firsthand how supportive the triathlon community can be.

That's why I created The Hub.

This is more than just another nutrition resource — it's a place where triathletes can finally get clear on nutrition, using proven strategies that actually work in real life.

No more confusion, no more overwhelm.

As your coach, I'm personally committed to helping every member achieve their goals.

You'll get direct access to my experience and expertise, translated into practical guidance that makes sense for your life.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The Hub is for any triathlete looking to improve their nutrition and join a wonderful group of athletes.

Whether you are a first-timer or a veteran, we include triathletes of any age and ability.

At this current point in time, The Hub is not able to provide advice for those with diagnosed eating disorders.

If you have diabetes, please contact James to discuss whether The Hub is suitable.

  • While The Hub was created for triathletes, you can still join if you focus on a single discipline.

We already have members who choose to either run or cycle as their sole sport.

However, please be aware that most of the content and discussion are aimed specifically at triathletes.

If you don’t mind that or are a bit tri-curious, you’re a great fit.

Warning: The Hub may cause a desire to buy a lycra tri-suit and book your first race.

  • In general, questions should be posted directly to the community forum. This helps with the shared learning ethos that The Hub aims to promote.

However, if you have a particular concern that you would like to keep private, please message James and he will respond in business hours. The Hub is not designed for direct, 1:1 coaching so please respect this boundary.

  • I will create a full race nutrition plan for you, with advice depending on the timeframe before your event.

This doesn’t have to be for a triathlon — it can anything!

However, please note that your event must be within the time period of your active subscription to The Hub.

The best way to enable this is to sign up for the annual subscription, so I can help you across multiple events and ensure your race nutrition is fully dialled in!

  • Unfortunately, injuries and illnesses happen. These are the times when a supportive community can help you the most.

James will be on hand to answer questions, and the rest of the community will be there to get you through any rough patches.

There’s always something to work on, and The Hub will help get you back to fitness.

  • Quite simply, yes!

I love helping triathletes with their nutrition and I’ll always answer questions as soon as I can.

But I do take time off to recharge, so please bear this in mind.

There will be scattered coaching sessions which are cancelled over the year to allow me a chance to be at my best for you for the rest of the time!

Hey! James here 🙂 It's wonderful to meet you.

My journey into triathlon began in 2018 with a fateful entry into a 70.3. Like many triathletes, I quickly caught "the bug" and haven't looked back since.

While I still race every season, my true passion has become helping other triathletes with their nutrition journey.

My background in healthcare spans over a decade, starting as a Paramedic in the Ambulance Service in 2013. I've since advanced to working in General Practice, where I became one of the first Paramedics in the UK to be granted Independent Medical Prescribing rights - essentially working as a Family Doctor.

This medical background, combined with my Masters in Sports Nutrition and SENR registration, has given me a deep understanding of both the science and practical side of nutrition.

I love taking complex nutritional science and turning it into simple, practical strategies for busy triathletes. No jargon, no fads - just evidence-based approaches that work in real life.

The Hub is my way of helping more triathletes understand nutrition and use it to achieve their goals.

I hope you'll join us!
